Scoop

malcolmd January 15th, 2008

No, not a scoop of ice cream.  Just a bit of a teaser that you’ll see, by what I hope is the close of business today, a few new products on the Digium website.  The suspense is killing me!  Before my big, big update, and with delicious frozen desserts apparently on the brain, I’ll bide my time with the Flavor Generator.

It’s Over….

Well, as I said last night, come back for the winner today. It was a terrifc day for Digium. We honored a Make-a-Wish child at our Holiday Luncheon and a Digium executive kissed a pig! Who do you think won? Digium raised $13,000 for Make-A-Wish foundation which is a feat to be proud of. Attached is the link to the team who came up with kiss-a-pig. There are pictures on this site. Also, a video will be coming soon as well.

Happy holidays to all you readers and Digium followers and supporters. We look forward to serving you in 2008!

This one’s for charity…..

beelinebill December 19th, 2007

Many folks at Digium volunteer to help others during the year by fund raising and donating time to local charities and churches. This time of year many Digium employees have raised the bar for innovation and fun in fund raising and has brought a new level of energy and excitement to Digium. When Kevin Fleming, co-maintainer of Asterisk, offered his time to Make-A-Wish Foundation® earlier this year, we were proud to have a new member of the Huntsville community join such a prominent charity. Kevin kicked off the Christmas fund-raising season and Digium agreed to match a percentage of the money raised. Make-A-Wish foundation is a great way to brighten a child’s life this time of year!

Employees formed “Wish” competitive teams to raise funds and the competition has set a new bar almost every day. From lasagna lunches to pancake breakfasts, donated airline tickets to raffle, a Wii, and other raffles and now the grandaddy idea of all: “The Kiss the Pig” event. I have said this before, but “You can’t make this stuff up!”

In locations around Digium, there are 5 piggy banks (see inserted picture) with the Digium’s executive names on each. The winner (most money collected) will win the ever-growing-popular contest to kiss the pig. Now the executive team have quite a mix of backgrounds. One individual was brought up on a real live farm. One was a city-dweller, but all are in the contest!

What I consider most impressive is the heart and generosity of the Digium people. But the innovative ideas people are deploying to raise the funds and the time and effort people are donating is so “Cool”. Excitement fills the halls and labs and conference rooms daily. People joke about what’s next?

We will have to wait and see who has received the highest donations. Which Digium Executive will kiss the pig? Stay tuned for tomorrow or shortly thereafter and on this site will be a video: http://www.makeadigiumwish.com

Wonder who it will be? As of earlier today, I was in the lead……

Boston - the Home of Winners: Red Sox - Patriots - Digium Asterisk World!

beelinebill October 29th, 2007

What a time to be in Boston! Arrive as the Patriots close out the first half season at 8-0 by blowing out the Redskins. Follow that with the closing out of their second World Series win in 4 years. The inaugural Digium Asterisk World follows these winning events at what is expected to be the largest VON show in recent history. We are ready to enjoy this first ever event! Mark Spencer will keynote Wednesday morning on “The Road Ahead is Open!” while Danny Windham will kickoff the Digium Asterisk World Conference itself, with “Hello World” as the open source telephony movement enters mainstream.

What is it like to be in Boston? Each channel on the hotel TV has “specials” on the Red Sox. The Red Sox Nation - the worldwide fans of the winners - go wild everywhere! In watching the winners’ recaps on these TV shows, I am drawing parallels to our approaches. Preparation. Each of these winners have outstanding coaching staffs and management teams. Each of these winners prepare mentally and physically for each event, game or series, and it shows. Each of these winning teams emphasize teamwork. Each of these winning teams, when asked about the approach, answer that they focus and plan one game at a time - one situation at a time - one event at a time. Most importantly, each team has a game plan. Baseball never used to have a game plan, but with the technology available today with real time and open communications statistics are available to make situational plans and are used heavily by these winners.

Digium approaches our growing open source Asterisk-based business applying all the Boston winners’ strategies. Excellent management team and coaching staffs with preparation for each event with an emphasis on teamwork, and we approach each event with a game plan. Our team is a mix of veterans and youngsters that mirrors the Red Sox and Patriots.

Yes, it’s a great time of year to be in Boston! Terrific fall weather, the BIG DIG is over, the Red Sox win the World Series, and the Patriots celebrate their season thus far - while Fall VON 2007 kicks off featuring Digium Asterisk World front and center. Digium Asterisk World is the coming out party of Mark Spencer’s Nation - the Asterisk believers who have followed and supported Mark since creating Asterisk and finding Digium, the Asterisk Company - as we bring Asterisk IP Telephony to Business. I think; therefore, I nerd

Aloha,

As Product Manager for so many of the things that make your life easier, I want to spend most of my time talking about boards and appliances. But, if that’s all I talk about, then many of you are going to get pretty board, get it, especially those of you that want to hear about the things that are uniquely Digium. So, after a hiatus to think of things other than products, I’m back. :)

You’ve likely read the last couple of posts here and have seen a few pictures of the new building. But, you haven’t been inside it and you’re asking yourself:

“When I travel to Digium to meet with them about buying millions of dollars of product, in what conference room will I be?”

Well, if you’re on the ground, you’ll meet in either the:

Emperor, Magellanic, or Chinstrap conference rooms.

Good Linux nerds are already clued in at this point; but, I continue.

If you’re on the first floor, second for you Yanks, then you’ll be meeting in the Galapagos, Adelie or Macroni (not Macaroni) conference rooms.

And, if you’re on the second floor, third for you Yanks, then you’ll be meeting in the Fiordland, Gentoo (my personal favorite, not to be confused with Gentoo), Rockhopper (which I simply can’t resist referring to as Rock Lobster) or the Mark C. Smith boardroom.

“We were at a party, his ear lobe fell in the deep. Someone reached in and grabbed it. It was a Rock Lobster.” - B52’s.
