This coming Sunday I will be heading to Madrid, Spain for the combined voip2day + ElastixWorld conference which takes place from Tuesday, September 25 – Thursday, September 27 at the IFEMA fair center. This will be my first trip to Spain since 2005, when Olle Johansson and I put on AstriCon Europe, the first Asterisk event held outside of the US and the second ever AstriCon. We managed to bring together about 200 Asterisk users and developers which I consider to be quite a feat given the fact that neither of us spoke a word of Spanish. Madrid is an awesome city and we had a great time. It will be interesting to see how things have progressed in the intervening seven years. I’m looking forward to catching up with some old friends and getting to know the current community.
If you’re not familiar with the event, voip2day + ElastixWorld is a co-production of Avanzada7, one of the leading distributors of communications products in Europe, and the team from PaloSanto Solutions which produces the Elastix open source PBX distribution. voip2day has been held yearly since 2008 and brings together VoIP users from all across Europe. ElastixWorld is the annual user and developer conference for the Elastix community. This is the third ElastixWorld event and the first held in Europe.
The schedule for this year’s conference is impressive: three days and more than twenty speakers (including myself, my colleague David Duffett and the indomitable Olle Johansson). The presentations will be done in both English and Spanish. David and I will be doing a co-presentation on Digium’s Asterisk products, then David will take the stage again to present, “GUI or Command Line? – You Can Get The Best Of Both Worlds”. Finally I will be giving an Asterisk Update talk, covering the forthcoming Asterisk 11. If you can get to Madrid for the show, please drop by and say hello.
