Digium Operations Impacted by Tornado Outbreak
Danny April 28th, 2011
Dear customers, friends and colleagues of Digium,
The region of the US where Digium is headquartered (North Alabama) was hit hard yesterday by the worst tornado outbreak in 30 years. Thankfully, we are unaware of any injuries to Digium employees. However, several employees, and many of our friends, neighbors, and colleagues have sustained significant personal property loss or damage. Power is out across the entire region (over 1M people) with over 80 transmission lines that supply the region having been destroyed. Estimates are that over 200 people were killed, 40 of them in north Alabama, 8 in our local community. A state of emergency has been declared and a dusk to dawn curfew has been enacted.
Given the widespread power outage, Digium is currently closed, and operating only essential services which includes supporting customers with service effecting issues, and processing orders for critical needs. The area’s communications infrastructure has been impacted and we are aware that some customers have been unsuccessful in their attempts to contact us. Estimates are that it will take 4 to 6 days to restore power. All Digium services are currently up and available, including digium.com and asterisk.org – but continued operation is dependent upon a number of factors, and is not guaranteed. Updates on plans and status will be provided here as they emerge. Your understanding during this difficult time is greatly appreciated.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have suffered loss as a result of these devistating storms.
