Asterisk VoIP Security Webinar

ssokol November 9th, 2009

VoIP security has become a serious issue over the past several years.  We frequently hear stories of servers hacked and used to make thousands of dollars worth of calls or to con unsuspecting citizens out of credit and bank account information.  Sadly, virtually all of these attacks could be prevented by applying a few basic IT security techniques.  In response to the uptick in both VoIP fraud and hype surrounding VoIP fraud, we’ve decided to host a webinar covering Asterisk VoIP security best practices.  So join us on Friday the 13th to discover just how easy it is to keep the bad guys out.

We’ve recruited two independent experts on VoIP security to participate in the discussion.  Special Agent Michael McAndrews of the Federal Bureau of Investigation will review recent trends and attack vectors in “VoIP Fraud: Emerging Trends from a Law Enforcement Perspective.”  Dan York, Chairman of the Best Practices committee of the VoIP Security Alliance, will cover the keys to securing your VoIP network in “VoIP Security Best Practices”.

Two of Digium’s leaders will cover the practicalities of securing Asterisk and Switchvox systems.  Jared Smith, Training Manager, will cover the steps you need to take to secure your Open Source Asterisk system.  Tristan Degenhardt, Director of Product Marketing, will take an in-depth look at the (remarkably simple) process of securing Switchvox.  The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session with our panel.

Scheduled for 10:30 AM CST, the webinar is free and open to all.  Register today to cut through the FUD and avoid falling victim to VoIP fraud.

This is really something i would attend, but it is so far away (and already in the past). Real cool this is free and open! Can something similar be organized in Holland (The Netherlands) in Europe?

    Edwin -
    We’ve posted the conference call/webinar here: http://www.asterisk.org/security/webinar

If there is anything you might think has a distinctly European angle, perhaps you might suggest it here, or to me directly (jtodd@digium.com) or Steve Sokol (ssokol@digium.com) and we can see if there is an interest in European discussions of security.
