J todd - all the suggestions except for the Lowell Observatory (in Flagstaff)are in or near Tucson - about a 2 hour trek south. Try an early am hike on Camelback, South Mountain or the McDowell Mountain Preserve. Or instead of shooting things up, go to www.bondurant.com and they can take you in a race car.
